Getting yourself resourceful and ready to learn is crucial for your success. ‘LEARN today to earn tomorrow’ is one thing you hear from your elders most of the times. And with so much to learn, its but natural to get coaxed.
But never forget that learning is the stepping stone to success. Learning is part of growing. Right from the time a baby is born, the only task she is found busy doing is learning and exploring. Learning helps you gain knowledge which helps you become independent and responsible, which is a part of growing-up. Although, you may find this process of learning difficult, it is the most necessary skill to succeed.
When we are students and more so in Class 10, the only thing we are expected to do is learn and prepare for exams. With so much on the table the question arises
“What should I learn and how do I learn?”
Go on the internet and you will get a lot of ways to prepare for your board exams. However, they would miss out on the most basic and simple tips for success in ICSE exams.
So let’s start with simple habits which will help you go a long way preparing for your exams and scoring those full marks, because I personally believe that 50% of your exam preparation would be covered by following these basic steps:
1. Listen Well
Listening is an important part of any kind of communication or for that matter learning. It’s a known fact that one who listens and not just hear understands the subject better. As your teachers are your first source of knowledge that you need to gain for answering your exams, it is your responsibility to listen so that you can learn and grasp effectively. Research shows that an average person listens with only 25% efficiency. To efficiently listen to what is being taught it all just depends on your desire to do so.
2. Engage in Class
Stay true to your growth in all respects. Ignore the bad company and engage in class to learn and understand more and work towards achieving your goals. Engaging is Empowering.
3. Ask Questions
To ask is to seek knowledge. Questions are the best way to clear your doubts. Questioning is the ability to organize your thoughts. It is always better to ask questions than to be in doubt. One should not hesitate to ask valid and subject related questions.
4. Respect Everyone
Respect everyone as every creature god has created is to be respected and enables learning and acquiring knowledge. When it comes to learning we can learn even from a small ant what is hard work and from a mighty elephant what is teamwork. Learning has no boundaries. Even teachers are next to God. “Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara, Guru Saakshaat Para Brahma, Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha ”. Thus it’s the Guru who sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. And one should salute such a Guru. So respect Teachers first and foremost.
5. Note New Things
Noting down new things you are being taught in the class with your own hands invokes all your 5 senses. Engaging with your own hand written notes helps in remembering and recollecting the topic at the time of revision and writing exams. Jot down key concepts, key questions, formulas as and when teacher points out and they can become your first source of quick reference before the exams.
Hence, learning and preparing for exams starts with basic habits listed above. Inculcate these today and never forget that learning is a never ending process which prepares you to face life with confidence and succeed. As a great saying goes.. “Fail to Prepare and Prepare to Fail!“
